Values and Principles

To write about my values and principles, I had to review what these two words mean.

From what I discovered, values are personal views on things or ideas, e.g. “lying is bad” is a value.

Principals are like laws and they don’t change over time, e.g. “not buying unnecessary stuff will help you save more money”.

Knowing these definitions, I consider lying as the root of all evil and it is my core value. I believe the issues of society in a democratic state, are caused by lying. Incompetent or corrupt people are where they are by lying about their plans and skills.

I also value freedom and harmlessness. No one should harm anyone else and no one should take away someone’s freedom. These two values can clash with each other as we have seen this as anti-maskers claim wearing a mask takes away their freedom. When they conflict, I believe harmlessness is more important than freedom.

Regarding my principles, I believe consistency leads to success. You don’t need to be the most talented person to be successful, you have to be consistent. I also think that if most of your actions at any given time are be on the path to your goal, you will eventually reach it. Additionally, I always try to look at the bright side in a bad situation.

I did a Google search to find out the meaning of value and principle. My core values are my own and they have shaped in recent years. I got my principles from my friends and I think copying good behavior is a good practice.
